NEW- Maybelline Colour Show Lip colour review

Hello

As I was going through my lippies drawers, I realise I don't have a lot of plums and reds in my stash so I made a quick stop at Guardian. I found a new display of the Maybelline Colour Show Lipstick.

Images from Maybelline Facebook page

Maybelline New York takes you on a color adventure with the launch of Color Show Lipcolor; an electrifying new assortment of 20 intense, long-lasting lip colors straight off the New York runway. A celebration of beauty and style, Color Show Lipcolor will help definitive trend setters and style seekers piece together killer getups with the most luscious hues! No matter what your style is, there’s a perfect pop of color for everyone in this bright bunch

The 20 stay-true colors promise to remain locked on your lips in heat and humidity in temperatures for lip color that’s always vivid, always intense and forever runway-ready. Get complete coverage in just one layer with this easy-to-apply lip color that’s designed to keep dryness at bay.

Description taken from Luxola.com

The display had the colours categorised in :
RED - Classic and iconic
PINK - Sweet or punchy
NUDE - Natural and timeless
PLUM - Dramatic and outstanding

Since Guardian was having a "buy 3 for the price of 2" promo, I picked up 3 colours.

L-R: Red Siren, Nude Mocha, Plum Perfect

Red Siren 205

Nude Mocha 305

Plum Perfect 403

My thoughts

Priced at $9.90 each, the black plastic tube feel light but sturdy. The lipstick apply smoothly and opaque with just one swipe. It does makes my lips feel moisturised which is probably due to its glossy finish. While it can last a good 5 hours with light drinking, it does fade off a lot when I started eating. However, it leaves a nice even stain of colour on my lips. With 20 colours to chose from (5 different shades in each colour family), you can definitely find a shade or 2 that you will love. Overall, I definitely will be getting a few more shades, especially now that Luxola.com is selling them at 15% off the regular retail price. Or head to Guardian for the "3 for 2" promo!

Available at selected Watsons, Guardian, SaSa, departmental stores, major supermarkets and hypermarts, and online at Luxola

Monthly Favourites - July 2013

Hello

Time for another monthly favourites. These are products that I reach out often this month. Not much though.

Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette
Great for everyday! For more swatches and pictures, check my post here

M.A.C Blush in Pink Swoon
Love this blush. this gives me a rosy flush when I use it lightly. You can definitely build it up for a more intense colour.

Holika Holika Face 2 Change CC cream
My favourite cc cream at the moment. Check out my full review on this cc cream here

M.A.C Lipstick in Crème Cup
My everyday lipstick. When I just want to have that natural coloured lips, I will reach for this.

Clio Gelpresso Waterproof Pencil Gel Liner in No.07 Golden Black
Best black eyeliner that I have so far coz it stays on my waterline the whole day. At the end of the day, I need to use a q-tip to remove it. And the pencil is soft too so it glides on smoothly. I have another 2 colours which I love as well.

Maybelline Hyper Glossy Liquid Liner in Khaki
Instead of applying black, I apply this eyeliner to give it a different look. For review swatches of this eyeliner and the other colours I have, check out my post here

My Favourite Setting Powders (Drugstore, Mid-End & High-End)

Hello

With Singapore's weather (all year round summer) and my oily combination skin, skipping setting powder in my makeup routine is a no no for me as I love wearing creams and liquid bases. Here all my all time favourite setting powders. I have no particular preferences over which to apply when as I love them all and rotate them frequently.

Lets start with the high end one shall we?

Chanel Natural Finish Loose Powder in 30 Naturel - Translucent 2
Retails about $70ish (30g)  here in Singapore, this is the most expensive setting powder I owned. It is also the largest amongst those I owned.  Packaged in a sturdy plastic jar with the classic black and white double c's logo, it is not the most convenient to travel with though it has a sifter and a puff. With only 3 shades available, I feel that for someone with a darker skin tone than me (i'm NC37-40) can get away with this powder as it is translucent. It does not provide any coverage but the finish is the most natural out of the 3 that I love. It is so finely milled, does not make you look cakey at all. I always apply this with my kabuki brush. Throughout the day, I find that it does not oxidise or budge and I don't need touch-ups.

M.A.C Mineralize Skinfinish Natural in Medium Plus
Retails at about $46 (10g), I have repurchased this powder at least 3 times. Packaged in a sturdy black plastic compact with a clear plastic top, this is definitely easier for travelling or on the go. With a wide range of shades available, you can definitely find the right one for you easily. The coverage of this powder is slightly more than Chanel's, so if you have good skin, buffing this with a kabuki will give you a decent coverage for evening out your skin tone. I do find that this oxidise a little so you probably want to purchase a shade lighter. You can also purchase a darker shade for bronzing as it gives a nice satin-y finish and had a good staying power of about 6-8 hours.

Lastly, the drugstore one. If you are in the US, this would be the cheapest but for me, there are other cheaper ones here in Singapore. I bought mine from drugstore.com so it is still affordable 2s compared to buying it at Watsons here.

Maybelline Dream Matte Powder in Beige (Medium 2-2.5)
Retails at $22.90 (9g) at Watsons, I have also repurchased this at least twice. Packaged in a beige plastic compact with a clear top, it is the most travel friendly as it comes with a mirror and puff. Great for touch-ups on the go. This is a staple in my makeup bag. It has just the same coverage as M.A.C's but has a more matte finish. This can however look cakey if you over apply. If you just got into makeup, you can consider this as it also has a lot of shades. However, this does not last as long as the other two, but since its easy to carry on the go, I wont complain!

So there it is, my favourite setting powders. What's yours? Share it in the comment section below!

Review: Maybelline Dream Liquid Mousse Foundation

Hello

Today's post will be a review on the new Maybelline Dream Liquid Mousse foundation that recently made its way in Singapore. There are 3 different types of foundation in this range: liquid, mousse and powder. Each with different finish, texture and coverage. I purchased the liquid foundation at Watsons for $27.90.  I believe there are about 10 shades for the liquid foundation, with both cool and warm undertones.

Its Claims:

Before and after:

My Final thoughts:

I love the coverage. Don't need concealer at all. The finish is not matte, not dewy either. More on the satin side. I find that it photographs well. The best way to achieve the highest coverage is using a flat foundation brush. If u prefer sheerer coverage, i find that using a buffing brush works better than using a beauty blender. it dries to smooth finish rather quick. If you have dry skin, setting it with a powder may not be neccessary. With my combination skin, i set it with my trusty Chanel loose powder. Staying power of this foundation impress me coz i did so many things during the day, including having a nap with my girl. Woke up and still look like i did when i first applied this foundation. The downside of this foundation: the pricetag. I usually try to buy drugstore foundations during sales, so having to pay a full price for this is an issue for me. Luckily, it lives up to its claims!

Overall, this is my current favourite foundation for now!

Have you tried any of the foundations yet?

Review: New Maybelline Lasting Drama Pen Gel Liner

Hello

It claims:

New Maybelline Lasting Drama Gel Liner Pen. All day smudge-proof drama in a pen. 1st gel liner in a pen. Waterproof.
In the mood for drama? With Just one click, frame your eyes with smooth bold lines for an intense look that last.

Introductory price: $19.90

Lets look at the product:

Now the 'test'

My final thoughts:

Firstly, if you are new to eyeliner, this is not reccomend for you as you need a steady hand to apply this gel liner. Also, if you prefer thin lines for your eyeliner, you would not want to use this too as what Maybelline claims, this is for those who wants drama for the eye. The eyeliner is indeed very black and waterproof. It is also smudge-proof. Why did i claim its smudge-proof when the eyeliner did budge after i rubbed it intensely? Seriously, do you rub your eyes so intensely when you have eye makeup on? Unless you are trying to dig your eyeballs out!

Now, removing this could take sometime. If you are using a mild makeup remover or makeup wipes, you will need to rub hard. I still had some eyeliner left even after using my mkeup wipes and washing my face with my daily cleanser. So what i did was wet a q-tip with makeup remover and clean any 'left-overs'.

It withstand the hot and humid weather in Singapore and also my constant teary eye i get when i have contact lenses on.
Overall, if you like thick eyeliner and want something to stay all day (and night), the Maybelline Lasting Drama Gel Liner Pen is something that you can add to your shopping basket the next time you shop for makeup!

For more information, you can visit Maybelline Website or Facebook  page or youtube channel.
